What follows is a summary of Decree 10, one of 26 Decrees dealing with the Mission of the Society Jesus today issued by the 34th General Congregation [GC34] of the Society of Jesus. The congregation met in Rome in the first three months of 1995. Its work affects the immediate future of Jesuits worldwide.
Every Jesuit and every Jesuit community must work vigorously for vocations so that our mission may continued to be carried out in the future. "Vocation promotion simply means helping young people hear and respond to the stirrings of the Spirit in their hearts." Vocations will happen if "our relationship with God, our communities, and our apostolates are what we profess them to be." Vocations must be sought "among minority cultures, immigrants, and indigenous people." It is recommended that Father General "write a letter on the practical aspects of promoting vocations to the Society."
