Since GC 32 and 33, Jesuits and lay people working together have effected a change in secondary education. Jesuit educational institutions have become accessible to students from economically disadvantaged groups. The quality of education has improved, Jesuit-lay cooperation has developed significantly and our schools have become platforms reaching out to whole communities. GC 34 urges that the ideas and practices drawn from GC 32 and 33 must inspire school mission statements, policies, programs and the entire school milieu.
Primary and pre-primary schools are very important and can be one of the most effective services we offer to people. GC 34 also encourages Jesuits, religious and lay persons to continue dedicated work in centers of nonformal education, established in both rural and urban areas of developing countries.
