Procession of Faith
Guatemalan boys gather for a procession that celebrates the arrival of textbooks to their school. The books were distributed to them by the Cooperative for Education, founded five years ago by brothers Joe and Jeff Berninger, Xavier University alumni. The children's parents rent the books from the school; proceeds fund the purchase of new books as needed.

Montserrat
Perched high among Spain's mountains is the monastery where Ignatius Loyola surrendered his sword and his ambitions for knightly valor before the ancient statue of Our Lady of Montserrat. The heavens seem very close and awe-inspiring in this lofty place.

Nunca Mas-Never Again
As a student of Boston College I have joined with thousands of others in protest of the School of the Americas at Ft. Benning in Columbus, Ga. Graduates of the school, which trains Latin American soldiers, have been implicated in human rights violations and abuses, including the murders of Jesuits in El Salvador in 1989. I first learned about the school as a sophomore at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Ill., and traveled to the school's gates in 2000 on the anniversary of the Jesuit massacre, joining others in protest of the school, saying, "Nunca Mas"-"Never Again."

The Graduate
Students erupt with confetti, silly string, and shouts of joy at Marquette University's 2001 commencement. Honorary degree recipient Fred Rogers (of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood) recounted how he realized that he could use his talents in the service of children and their families. "It's a miracle when we finally discover whom we're best equipped to serve, when we can best appreciate the unique life we've been given," he said.
